A Portrait of the Young Man/Woman as an Artist/Athlete/Musician/Fashionista/Skater/Actor/Activist/Ithinkyougettheidea
Take a picture of yourself with the appropriate background.
Write a portrait of yourself that models Joyce’s intentions when writing both Dubliners and Portrait. In these works, “He adopts an attitude of “scrupulous meanness” toward his characters, in which Joyce balances sympathy and objectivity. This balance exhibits both factual information and sympathetic understanding of characters. Evidence of this style lies in Joyce’s tongue-in-cheek objectivity, subtle comment, careful crafting of tone and images, and demonstration of conflict in characters’ intentions and actions.”
Your portrait should be a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 1500 words. You must submit both a printed copy with your picture portrait and an electronic copy to www.turnitin.com by Friday, October 23, 2009.
